We all should respect those who take a stand against evil in tyranny. When people stand up against atrocities, we have a chance of making a difference on this earth and leaving it a more positive place for our children. I have dedicated my life to changing the behaviors of humanity so that good may come to this world. Two other people that have taken a stand against tyranny are Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin
These two brave men took a stand against the Arizona Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Joe Arpaio dubbed himself “America’s Toughest Sheriff” because he took a very strong stance on Arizona immigration policy.
Depending on the way you view this world, that may seem like an honorable title, but we can all agree that his methods have been questionable throughout the decades. Learn more about Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey: http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/potmsearch/detail/submission/6427427/Jim_Larkin
One time, Sheriff Arpaio illegally broke into the home of a Latino family because he believed it was secretly a weapons and drug outpost. As they stormed the house, he realized that he was wrong. Normally you could just apologize and move on. Sheriff Joe Arpaio decided it was better to burn the house down to the ground. Not only was this unnecessary, not to mention illegal, but he forced the family pets back inside where they burned alive in front of the family.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio also was responsible for the death of an unborn child. One of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s evils is that he keeps specific jail cells open for Latinos. These jail cells are disease-ridden and routinely fail health inspections. There was a time when he put a pregnant woman in one of these jail cells.
During her time there, she began experiencing abdominal pain and asked to see a Doctor. She was denied the ability to see a Doctor, and her baby died as a result. To make it even more heartbreaking, Sheriff Joe Arpaio denied her the right to go to the child’s funeral.
Michael and Jim reported these and other atrocities through their newspaper the Phoenix New Times as well as their Village Voice Media.
When Sheriff Joe Arpaio heard all the evidence they had against him, he gathered several black unmarked SUVs and drove to the homes of these brave men. He broke into their homes using the cover of darkness and held them hostage and illegally demanded that they hand over all evidence to him or else he was taking them to jail. When they refused, he made good on his promise. Read more: Michael Lacey | Facebook and Phoenix New Times | Wikipedia
This illegal detention would result in a lawsuit from Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin to the Maricopa County. They would end up settling for $3.75 million. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin would use that money to start the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund.
Recently, Donald Trump pardoned Sheriff Arpaio of the evils he had committed. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin now use the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund to reverse the evils that Sheriff Arpaio continues to make.
