Traditional catheter’s are often difficult to position within the body. When doctor’s and nurses want to be sure a catheter is inserted into the correct location within the body, they use imaging machines such as X-ray or MRI’s to determine the position of the catheter.

While too much exposure to X-rays can be harmful, MRI’s alternatively are often too large and cumbersome thus both imaging options have proven to be inconvenient, time-consuming and frustrating to use.

Dr. Saad’s solution has been to create a device that can locate a catheter without the use of large imaging machines or harmful radiation. Dr. Saad’s catheter works differently than traditional catheters by being able to detect electromagnetic energy.

Using an external location device, Dr. Saad’s catheter is also equipped with magnetic material located at the tip, a doctor will be able to determine the location of the tip of the catheter inside a patient when an electromagnetic pulse from the tip of the catheter alerts the external locating device.

Because the device is portable and practical, this allows patients to avoid X-rays and MRI scans. It also allows the device to be used in ICU when there may not be time to perform a body scan in order to find the catheter. But catheter’s aren’t the only device Dr. Saad has perfected over the past couple decades. His second patent involves a modified version of an endoscope. Medical professionals use endoscopes to check various internal functions of patients. They can be used to look inside the throat, bladder, stomach, windpipe, etc.

Visual monitoring of the inside of the human body is challenging, mostly due to the body’s abundance of fluids. Plasma, blood, and other internal fluids can fog the lens of an endoscope making it difficult to see clearly, and thus inhibit a surgeon’s ability to operate accurately.

Dr. Saad has developed an endoscope equipped with a suction and irrigation device, that would help clear the lens of an endoscope by suctioning excess fluid, and washing away debris. Both of Dr. Saad’s inventions benefit doctors and patients as they prevent unnecessary complications, allows surgeons to perform their duties more efficiently, and save patients time and money.
