Dr. Mark Holterman – more than just a Doctor

With over twenty years in the medical profession, Dr. Mark Holterman is no doubt a very experienced professional. But he does more than just practice in his chosen specialty of pediatric surgery. In fact, he is also an educator, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and an avid researcher, among others.

After finishing Medical School at the University of Virginia more than thirty years ago, Dr. Mark Holterman has gone on to impart his knowledge and skills gathered over the years to surgical residents and medical students while also practicing at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Mark Holterman is also an avid researcher, as his work in regenerative treatments such as stem cell therapy demonstrates. He has, as a result, gained recognition with an award by the American Diabetes Association for his work in Autoimmune Diabetes. Another notable project Dr. Holterman is involved in is the Trachea Project, which essentially involves using a patient’s bone marrow cells in combination with a trachea-shaped structure to repair or replace a diseased trachea.
