American Civil Liberties Union the Guardians of Americans Rights and Liberties

The constitution is one of the most important documents in any nation. It is in this document that the fundamental rights and liberties of every individual are inscribed. For almost a century now, the American Civil Liberties Union has been the custodian of this crucial aspect of the constitution.

Although the constitution outlines how individuals ought to be treated, most times institutions and individuals at different capacities find themselves abusing this right and hence the need for American Civil Liberties Union.

Since its institution, the American Civil Liberties Union has worked tirelessly hard to preserve and defend the rights and liberties guaranteed of every American through their constitution. The current population of this nonprofit organization constitutes over two million members; supporters and activists alike, in 50 different states.

These volunteers stretch to the law enforcement community and include legislators and prosecutors who are in charge of championing for the institution of new laws and policies and also defending the oppressed in courts of law.

With the change of time, American Civil Liberties Union has adjusted itself to accommodate current emerging issues. Unlike early times when the group was formed to defend the freedom of speech of union leaders, currently, the American Civil Liberties Union radar addresses various issues.

They include privacy issues for the new digital widespread era, equality issues for the LGBT community, fighting to preserving the freedom to vote, abortion issues, and championing to end mass incarceration among others.

The American Civil Liberties Union is a non-profit organization and therefore does not seek or rely on any funding from government institutions to conduct its activities.

However, this does not mean that it does not rely on funding to carry out its goals; it does. One of the organizations that helps in the funding of American Civil Liberties Union is the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.

About Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund

The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is a nonprofit organization that aligns its self with civil activism groups. This organization was established after the compensations that occurred from the October 18, 2007, incident.

The event happened at Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin residence where the then Maricopa County boss, Sherriff Joe Arpaio, ordered for the arrest and detention of the two journalists for a crime of expressing their freedom of speech.

After this incident, the court established grounds for abuse of office and infringement of the first amendment and awarded the two journalist compensation settlement totaling to $3.7 million.

It is from this settlement that the two journalists founded this trust.
